Donald Trump did something that’s entirely rare for him. Something that’s almost never happened. He acknowledged he lost the 2020 election after all the times he’s claimed almost nonstop that it was fraudulent and he actually won. This happened while he was being interviewed by journalist Ramin Setoodeh, for his new book, Apprentice in Wonderland. For the briefest second, Trump let it slip that Geraldo Rivera called him after he “lost the election”— then he corrected himself quickly, saying “I won the election, but when they said we lost.”

According to OK! Setoodeh shared a recording of Trump’s statement during an interview with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Thursday, and he told the MSNBC anchor that he and Trump were discussing the former president’s fallout with Rivera, his former friend.

Trump has flubbed before and accidentally admitted he lost.

This includes the time in 2022 when The Atlantic published an interview where Trump talked with a panel of historians working on a book about his presidency. He shared an anecdote about his efforts to pressure South Korean President Moon Jae-in to make additional contributions to U.S. military support.

As usual, Trump was in ramble mode, and he remarked “When I didn’t win the election, he had to be the happiest…” before suggesting other countries, including Iran, China, and Russia, might have also been happy with this turn of events.

And over the past few months, Trump has already suggested that he will also deny the 2024 election results. So obviously he’s as delusional as ever, and he added the caveat:

“If everything’s honest, I’ll gladly accept the results. I don’t change on that,” Trump told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday, May 1, while he was visiting the state for a rally. “If it’s not, you have to fight for the right of the country.”

“If you go back and look at all of the things that had been found out, it showed that I won the election in Wisconsin,” Trump added. “It also showed I won the election in other locations.”

But this is just Trump lingo meaning “No, I won’t accept the results unless I’m the winner.” That’s all this really means. I believe he will obfuscate, lie, cheat, threaten, and do whatever he thinks will land him back in the White House.

The Biden campaign has issued a statement condemning Trump’s remarks about the 2024 election. It’s something we need to pay heed to.

“President Joe Biden has said, ‘You can’t love your country only when you win.’ But for Donald Trump, his campaign for revenge and retribution reigns supreme,” per the campaign. “In his own words, he is promising to rule as a dictator on ‘day one,’ use the military against the American people, punish those who stand against him, condone violence done on his behalf, and put his own quest for power ahead of what is best for America.”

“Bottom line: Trump is a danger to the Constitution and a threat to our democracy,” the statement concluded. “The American people are going to give him another electoral defeat this November because they continue to reject his extremism, his affection for violence, and his thirst for revenge.”

I also believe Trump is dangerous. I don’t think he cares about everyday Americans, whether they are low-income or middle-class. He’s only interested in what he can do for himself and his fellow wealthy friends. And that’s it. I think he has every intention of turning himself into a dictator and he’s going to lead the country down a very dark path if he wins.
