Rush Limbaugh Tries to Start Civil War II: Suggests Conservatives and Liberals Can’t Live Together Peacefully

We are really going to work hard at keeping our control in writing this column. As the title says, this is about whether or not liberals can live peacefully with conservatives and all I can say is that yes, we can, so long as they’re sane. We know a physician (mine) who reads a lot of these articles, agrees with near nothing but enjoys some chuckles and we’ve made it a point to be guys that love learning about how the other came to believe what they believe.

He’s not an asshole, which seems to be the key.

But, as we bring assholes into the discussion, we have to get to Rush, with whom we could not live peacefully, although that doesn’t make us any different than the three wives (or is it four?) that bailed – quickly – on him. Perhaps it is his lack of tolerance for anyone who might disagree with him? Spouses famously never agree with each other, yet find a way. The same cannot be said … we’re done with the Rush-spouse comparisons because they’re creepy.

Here is what Rush said:

The right-wing radio host addressed the topic during his Wednesday show. He told his audience, “I see more and more people asking what in the world do we have in common with the people who live in, say, New York? What is there that makes us believe that there is enough of us there to even have a chance at winning New York? Especially if you’re talking about votes.”

What do you have in common with New York? Well, for one, New York pays one hell of a lot more money into the federal government than Florida and that funds that spiffy military you have there, sparky. If the United States was attacked, you’d be wanting that New Yorker right beside you in a foxhole.

But go on:

“There cannot be a peaceful coexistence of two completely different theories of life, theories of government, theories of how we manage our affairs. We can’t be in this dire a conflict without something giving somewhere along the way.”

“Giving somewhere along the way” is exactly what the framers intended. You just want it “Your Way, no giving.”

Since 1992 the Democratic candidate for president has gotten more votes than the Republican in every election except 2004. In spite of all that, Trump appointed three justices to the Supreme Court, there has been a Republican President for 12 of those years and your tiny punk-ass red Wyomings and Idahos’ senators neutralize the votes of California and Washington. That would seem like the Democrats have “given somewhere along the way.”

I still haven’t given up the idea that we are the majority and that all we have to do is find a way to unite and win,” the host closed. “And our problem is the fact that there are just so many RINOs, so many Republicans in the Washington establishment who will do anything to maintain their membership in the establishment because of the perks and the opportunities that are presented for their kids and so forth.”

Yes, you believe you are in the majority if you only count white men at the country-club set or the ones without degrees, and we suspect those are the only people you count. When it comes to the lesbian black woman from Philadelphia, we suspect you’re not counting her.

You are not in the majority and that’s why you’re so terrified.

But this type of talk is terrifying to the rest of us that are used to you and ignore you. We can’t ignore this. You put this kind of talk up with the call to “Live for nothing or die for something” (or whatever they said in Arizona today) and it gets more insane, the temperature increases. Eventually, violence ensues, and then it’s American on American. Interesting that when our forces fought in Iraq (whether we supported the war or not), the people from New York likely saved those guys from Florida and conservatives helped out liberals and vice versa.

It is all in context. Rush’s context is pretty damned narrow … to suit his agenda.
