Jerry Falwell, Jr. Put On ‘Indefinite Leave’ From Liberty University After Sleazy Unzipped Pants Photo

Liberty University has announced that they have asked university president Jerry Falwell Jr. will take an immediate leave of absence. This announcement is far from surprising except to the extent that it is actually holding a man of extreme wealth and power accountable for behavior that, while not illegal (that we know of), isn’t exactly the type of thing one expects from someone who holds himself out as a Godly-man and an “educator” of impressionable young minds.

We at this site have had a bit of fun with Jerry all week, he brought this all on himself when he posted a picture of himself looking extremely drunk, holding an attractive young woman, on a yacht, all of which was plenty to get him a leave of absence from this university. The undone pants and “belly out” from under the shirt were just to make it art, we guess. It sounds like Jerry hosted a drunken “costume party,” in which they mocked poor, white, southerners, or what Jerry and Trump normally call … the base.

Whatever the hell it was that went on, it was enough of a “thing” that we have been noting that Jerry would be in a bad spot if he was president of the University of Iowa, never mind president of Liberty University. Indeed, Jerry’s biggest “hope,” to the extent he had any, was that people simply expect that kind of hypocrisy from Trump and Trump allies. Look at the NRA! Indeed, look at the NRA, and look at Trump. Perhaps we’re about to enter a new golden age of accountability.

The “You should expect hypocrisy!” defense didn’t fly and today Liberty University asked Jerry to take an “indefinite leave of absence,” which isn’t a “termination,” but it is likely the most immediate thing that they can do. Yes, the door is left open, if Jerry wants to put two years of good behavior together and convince them all that he really has “reformed himself,” he can have at it, but that’s a lot of effort … we’ll see what he does. He has plenty of money, he might just “retire” and … we really don’t know.

According to Rawstory:

“The Executive Committee of Liberty University’s Board of Trustees, acting on behalf of the full Board, met today and requested that Jerry Falwell, Jr. take an indefinite leave of absence from his roles as President and Chancellor,” the statement said, in part, according to CNN’s Jim Acosta.
