Melania Taking Separate Motorcade to SOTU for the Second Year in a Row, Breaking Presidential Tradition

Tonight is the State of the Union and as she did last year, Melania Trump will not be traveling to the Capitol with husband Donald Trump. Instead she will take a separate motorcade with her quests for the SOTU.

According to CNN’s Kate Bennett, Melania will take her own motorcade to the Capitol, and will hold a private reception for her guests.

“For second year in a row, Melania Trump will take her own motorcade to the Capitol for #SOTU2019. Stephanie Grisham tells me: “Mrs. Trump knows this is an important night, and wants to ensure the experience of her guests is special, and that they feel comfortable.”

“In addition to a White House reception she will host, Melania Trump will also hold a separate meet and greet for the guests at the Capitol — again, same as last year.”

In 2018 the Trumps also took separate motorcades to the Capitol, and many assumed it was because of the fallout following the news that Donald Trump paid adult firm star Stormy Daniels for her silence over an affair they had in 2006, months after Melania gave birth to their only child Barron.

Barack and Michelle Obama, as well as George and Laura Bush, walked together from the White House doors to the same limo for the drive to State of the Union for all of the eight years each held office.
