Trump Reportedly Looking for a Way Out of Shutdown Without Looking Like a Fool
According to the Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump is looking for a way to end the government shutdown…but in a way where he won’t look like a giant embarrassment.
Trump met a mix of congressional and White House officials at Camp David over the weekend, where they held new talks about how to secure federal funding for the construction of his southern border wall.
According to the WSJ, Trump is asking his aides to come up with a plan that will allow him to reopen the government while sparing him from looking like he’s capitulating to Democrats.
During a private meeting with aides at Camp David on Sunday, Mr. Trump said he wanted them to come up with a resolution to the shutdown fight that would reopen the government without him appearing to have capitulated to Democrats, a person familiar with the meeting said.

Congressional and White House officials are still failing to reach any kind of agreement on the president’s funding requests, even as he continues to float new characterizations of the wall. Trump has threatened to declare a national emergency to commence building, but that plan of action is likely to face numerous legal challenges and questions of where the money will come from in the midst of a shutdown.
Trump is scheduled to give a national address on Tuesday night, to bring his case to the American public.
