Sarah Huckabee Sanders Wants You To Feel Bad For Michael Flynn, FBI ‘Ambushed’ Him In Lie

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders smeared the FBI this morning, claiming that the agency “ambushed” disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, which FBI records show to be false.

On Tuesday morning’s edition of Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, anchor Bill Hemmer asked Sanders about Flynn’s appearance in court for sentencing on Tuesday, and Sanders expressed “concerns” about the way Flynn’s FBI interview was conducted.

“Are you arguing he was entrapped?” Hemmer asked.

“We’re arguing that he was certainly ambushed,” Sanders replied.

Later in the interview, Hemmer circled back, and asked Sanders what she meant when she said Flynn had been ambushed.

Sanders said that she based her claim on “James Comey’s own public comments of the fact that they sent people over here, encouraged Flynn not to include White House counsel’s office.”

She stopped short of saying the tactics were illegal. ” That’s something that the court will have to determine whether or not it was illegal. But it was certainly inappropriate,” Sanders said.

But according to the heavily redacted FBI notes on Flynn’s interview released on Monday, the agents gave Flynn every opportunity to include the White House counsel, and advised him that doing so would require deeper involvement from the Justice Department.

The documents also portray repeated efforts by the agents to lead Flynn to respond truthfully, efforts that Flynn ignored in favor of lying.

And according to James Comey‘s public statements on Monday following a second round of closed-door testimony, the interview was consistent with FBI guidelines.

Sanders is scheduled to give one of her rare press briefings Tuesday morning at 10:30am EST.
