Top Psychiatrist Gives Ominous Warning: Trump Dementia Evidence Is ‘Overwhelming’

Another prominent psychologist is sounding the alarm over the “overwhelming” evidence that former president Donald Trump has dementia as speculation about the state of Trump’s mental health continues. Dr. Lance Dodes, a supervising analyst emeritus from the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and retired Harvard Medical School professor, was among several noted psychiatrists recently quoted by Duty To Warn, which, according to Newsweek, describes itself as an association of mental health professionals who are all concerned about Trump.

“Unlike normal aging, which is characterized by forgetting names or words, Trump repeatedly shows something very different: confusion about reality,” he wrote in a statement published on Friday, referencing Trump’s repeatedly confusing Barack Obama with Joe Biden.

“If he were to become president he would have to be immediately removed from office via the 25th Amendment as dangerously unable to fulfill the responsibilities of office,” Dodes, who is also a distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, writes, citing the 1967 mechanism that allows for a president to be removed if deemed to be unfit to serve.

New York psychologist Suzanne Lachmann echoes Dode’s sentiments, noting in another statement released at the same time that Trump, 77, would “seemingly forget how the sentence began and invent something in the middle.” This results in “an incomprehensible word salad” — a behavior typically observed “frequently in patients who have dementia.”

As for those who criticize President Joe Biden’s forgetfulness, John Gartner, a psychologist and former professor at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, has defended the President’s forgetfulness as a natural sign of his age. Gartner has also indicated he has serious concerns about Trump and in a petition he argues Trump is “showing unmistakable signs strongly suggesting dementia.”

In early March, Gartner wrote that the former president shows “progressive deterioration in memory, thinking, ability to use language, behavior, and both gross and fine motor skills,” and added that he felt “an ethical obligation to warn the public, and urge the media to cover this national emergency.”

It’s quite clear to most of us that Trump is struggling mentally, but his campaign team continues to blow smoke.

Jason Miller, a senior advisor to the Trump campaign told Newsweek: “Joe Biden is clearly suffering from cognitive decline and couldn’t answer the five questions of a cognitive test or any other test for that matter. I always love how Trump’s people say these things without offering evidence.

“President Trump has aced this test twice and is willing to take a third test if Joe Biden sits in the same room and takes it at the same time,” Miller said. “In fact, President Trump believes all presidents should take the test.”

All of the mental health professionals mentioned above have, in the past been critical of Trump’s mental state. Lachmann is a proponent of Gartner’s petition, and Dodes and Gartner authored the 2017 book The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump. That definitely led to concerns over his mental health during his time as president.

Others, like his niece Mary Trump, also a psychologist, question the former president’s mental health. She has previously described her uncle as cogent when he was young, but that he is now showing signs of “untreated psychiatric disorders.”

The criticism over Biden’s mental state comes as he faces the likelihood that he’ll be Trump’s rival in November. Questions about his age and mental acuity stemmed from several public gaffes and Republicans have used this to imply he isn’t fit to be president for another term.

He is already the oldest U.S. president in history and will turn 82 weeks after election day. If elected, he will be 86 by the end of his second term. Biden has effectively waved off questions about his physical and mental health. In February he told a news conference that his “memory is fine” and “I know what the hell I’m doing.”

It’s good to see he’s retained his singular feistiness and it’s definitely a relief when you consider Trump’s constant yelling and bombast.

Both presidential contenders have been given reasonably clean bills of health by their respective physicians. In November, Dr. Bruce Aronwald wrote that the former president’s “overall health is excellent” and “his cognitive exams were exceptional.” Even though he’s constantly speaking in word salads and struggles to read a Teleprompter then blames Biden for this and garbles Barack Obama’s name and then claims Biden beat Obama.

Tell me again how his mental state is okay.

If he becomes president again, he’ll be talking to world leaders and he’ll have the sole authority to authorize the use of nuclear weapons. With a world that already may be on the brink of World War III this is a scary thought.

I think there is every reason in the world to worry about Trump’s mental state. I’m obviously not alone in worrying about it.
