Trump Cancelled Taliban Camp David Talks Because He Didn’t Want Ivanka to Wear a Burqa

When former President Donald Trump, in agreement with the Taliban, pulled troops out of Afghanistan, there was much consternation. The agreement listed specific dates and timelines, and it was intended to be quite the photographic ceremony, writes New York Times correspondent Maggie Haberman, in her recently released book Confidence Man, according to Raw Story.

“To facilitate a permanent withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, Trump’s secretary of state Mike Pompeo, had pursued a peace agreement with the country’s Taliban insurgency,” Haberman writes.

This idea was not met warmly by John Bolton, Trump’s national security adviser. He was worried this could lead to an uptick in terrorism against the U.S. and NATO allies. Trump, however, found the idea fascinating.

“Trump then became intrigued with the idea of a signing ceremony in Washington shifting to an even more historically resonant venue: hosting the Taliban at Camp David,” Haberman tells us. “Trump did not seem concerned that his would-be guests had given harbor to the mastermind of a terrorist assault on United States soil that killed more than three thousand people, including a strike on the Pentagon, or about the fact that the proposed September date fell around the anniversary of the attacks.”

Haberman cites Beth Sanner, Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Mission Integration, who was also not particularly thrilled about the summit.

“Is Ivanka going to wear a burka?” Sanner asked sarcastically, according to Haberman.

Apparently, Trump was concerned about this, and “a wide range of officials were horrified.”

Large-scale protests are ongoing in Iran after a woman was fatally beaten for not wearing a hijab — the traditional head covering worn by some Muslim women. Here’s the point where I remind you that these are the people Trump is willing to host at Camp David — people who think it’s fine to beat women to death over a clothing disagreement.

But none of this is apparently of any importance to Trump — as long as Ivanka doesn’t have to wear a burka anyway. If he can try to meet with a known terrorist organization with connections to the 9/11 tragedy, he’s not likely to be concerned about a woman being killed for uncovering her hair.
