Right-Wing Radio Host and Rioter Arrested and Charged with Stealing U.S. Capitol Police Officer’s Hat

We have all read complaints from rioters that they bragged about the crime on Facebook and then, upon being caught, cried about being spied upon, or something just as stupid. The selfies, the cell phone video posted to Facebook or Instagram, it all just became “Exhibit A” in the inevitable trial.

But we have a new one. If you thought you’d heard it all, how about this. It is as if a cat burglar managed to steal some of the crown jewels and then wore them to dinner with the queen.

A right-wing radio host participates in the Capitol riots on January 6th, and – unless he stopped at the gift shop and purchased a Capitol Police hat for sale – stole a hat from a police officer (aka “theft”) while also rioting. According to Law and Crime:

A right-wing radio host stole the baseball cap worn by a U.S. Capitol Police officer who defended Congress on Jan. 6 and wore it during a live stream of one of his broadcasts, federal authorities claimed in court papers released on Monday. Three witnesses who worked at his media outlet allegedly told the FBI that he boasted about stealing several other items from the officer and china plates from the building.

Charged under seal on Sept. 30, Global Enlightenment Radio Network host Darrell Neely was arrested on Monday, and court records show that three other people who worked with him at the radio station led the FBI to him. Those three witnesses each told authorities that they spoke to Neely on the day of the siege of the U.S. Capitol in video calls and a Facebook messenger chat.

So, video calls, with Facebook messenger? Add the hat and that’s either three of a kind or a flush. So far, Neely might be the leader in the “Convict me most easily” clubhouse.
