Today, Tuesday, the Cape Cod Times reported that Linda Zuern, a former member of the Bourne, Massachusetts Board of Selectmen and a Trump-supporting figure in the local Republican Party, died of COVID-19.

Just this last weekend, we wrote that we should get used to seeing such stories. COVID-19 is now a right-wing MAGA disease. We will not see 60-year-old physics professors dying of COVID. No, from this point forward the disease is confined to those MAGAs that are particularly sensitive to conspiracy theories and disinformation. Sad, but Trump rose on the backs of just such people.

We will not be self-righteous in our coverage, and certainly not take any pleasure or payback on anyone’s death. Some of these people have children who won’t understand, they are truly sympathetic victims. But the deaths are ironic and, again, will be the driving force in the continued death rate in this country, especially with the delta variant.

Zuern was particularly bad when it came to spreading conspiracy theories. According to Rawstory:

For months, Zuern, a member of the pro-Trump group the United Cape Patriots, had promoted conspiracy theories about the pandemic on Facebook. She has shared articles accusing the World Health Organization of a coverup of the “Wuhan Virus” and claiming COVID-19 is cover for “globalists” to usher in “U.N. Agenda 2030” — a sustainable development initiative right-wing conspiracy theorists assert is a plot to create a one world government.

Zuern just died of a plot to create a one-world government, which no one wants. But she was a Qanon member, who would write WWG1WGA, (Where we go one, we go all.) As if she weren’t “Trumper” enough, she was a huge proponent of hydroxychloroquine, which, we wish would have helped. She was also said to be a very kind and loving person.

Make of that what you will in a movement based on hate.
