It is very clear that the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers fully believed that they were ordered to do what they did on January 6th and more disturbingly, they still believe that they are right, no matter what the defense attorneys say in court. We know because CNN’s investigative reporter, Drew Griffin, is doing a special to be aired on Sunday and the little bit put out by CNN this morning was fascinating and terrifying.

These people live in a fantasy world built on lies and myths. Griffin was shocked by the utter delusion in which these people live, some of them go back ten years rooted in conspiracy after conspiracy. Additionally, they lie as easily as Donald Trump, even when they know that there is video evidence from every angle telling the entire story of what happened that day. How very Trumpian.

To that end, it is fascinating to watch  Proud Boy Joshua Pruitt sit down with Griffin and adamantly state that two cops let Pruitt into the Capitol. It didn’t go well:

Griffin: “You know that’s not true.”
Pruitt: I know that is true. There’s proof of it, there’s video of it!”
Griffin: The video I saw of that moment was a couple of cops overwhelmed by a mob.
Pruitt: “Well, you didn’t watch all the videos then.”
Griffin: I didn’t? I’m pretty sure I did!

Whereupon, Griffen showed the video of Pruit doing exactly what Griffen had said. This is important because, as Griffin points out, these people can convince themselves of anything, they have based at least the last five years on a bed of lies. They are so invested that it is hard to face the facts. But once they do, there’s a bit of a spell broken. Griffin hopes that his special report will help these people see what actually happened.

It was no noble fight for the truth. The truth is in the video:
