Boris Johnson Openly Ignores Trump at G7 Conference: Says Biden is a ‘Breath of Fresh Air’

There was a time when there was a bit of fear that Boris Johnson was the U.K.’s version of Donald Trump. After the U.K. elected Johnson, it felt a little like the British were saying, “hold my beer” as though the British truly did want to meet us pound for pound on crazy. Johnson is still a unique and, yes – weird, guy. But unlike Trump, upon taking the job, something seemed to click in Johnson, perhaps the weight of responsibility pushed out some of the weirdness. His politics is still ridiculously conservative, but he is certainly not the U.K.’s version of Trump.

Johnson covered some specifics as to his priorities in his first discussion with Biden, and those priorities seem right in line with what we would want. Thanks to Rawstory for the quotes:

It’s new, it’s interesting and we’re working very hard together. We went on for about an hour and 20 or so. It was a long, long, good session. We covered a huge range of subjects,” Johnson said, according to reports.

It’s wonderful to listen to the Biden administration and to Joe Biden, because there’s so much they want to do together with us, from security, NATO, to climate change.

Ah yes, “NATO,” certainly a military defense agreement, and perhaps the most important in the world. But it’s much more than that. It is a functional partnership that allows the entirety of the membership from falling under Putin’s corrupt control. John Bolton said that he was positive that Trump would have taken the U.S. out of NATO if he won a second term. Of course, Trump would have taken us out of NATO. We predicted as much long before Bolton said it. Putin hates NATO with every fiber of his being. If he could get Trump to do one ultimate thing, it would be to destroy NATO.

Trump would have done it. But Biden is going to build it back. Thus it was that after the meeting, Johnson was clear and he apparently doesn’t care that he’s about to be viciously targeted by the orange one and MAGA movement:

After meeting President Biden for the first time ahead of the G7 Summit, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the U.S. President is a “breath of fresh air” while speaking to reporters.

As we said, Johnson’s still an odd duck, but it’s a “breath of fresh air” to hear that there is more comfortable cooperation between the two giant powers.
