Uh Oh, Looks Like It’s Time for Former AG Bill Barr to Lawyer Up

Things are about to get real for big William Barr. He finds himself in the crosshairs of a strong, respected, senior federal district court judge angry about the fact that he chose to play the court, namely lying, and he played Congress, namely… You get it. Bill Barr lied, according to the judge, and judges themselves rarely lie about such things. That un-redacted opinion is coming.

It is possible that Garland’s DOJ will appeal the matter. It won’t be to protect Barr. If the DOJ chooses to appeal, it will be because it involves an FOIA request, and perhaps the DOJ doesn’t want to open the department to this type of FOIA request. But a district judge like Amy Berman Jackson has been around a long time and knows how to write an opinion to get around appealable issues. It is coming out.

Last December, in our op-ed “Goodbye” series, we said goodbye to Bill Barr:

Things change when you are the one that is panicking, right? You now face a future in which you’ll live every day in fear that you, yourself, will find yourself at the wrong end of the “United States v. …” caption. You will also have to worry that the monster you helped to create, the MAGA movement, might come for you and your deep state depravity. They want their fraud Bill, and they might want to look for it in you. We hope not. It could be ugly.

Not to sound like we’re glorifying ourselves, nor calling ourselves savants, or even clairvoyant, this one was pretty easy to see coming.

It sounds like it will be ugly. Barr wrote a memo justifying declining to prosecute Trump and it was full of lies and “disingenuousness” (Judge Berman-Jackson’s words). To the extent that a document with Barr’s name on it violated DOJ policy, the law, and common sense, all in the name of political power, there’s only one thing for Barr to do at this point:

As said above, this was pretty easy to see coming.

We suspect that Barr was pretty carefree toward the end of 2019, during the impeachment process, right on through early 2020, when the earlier prosecutions needed “fixing,” but we all noticed that in mid to late 2020, the situation seemed like a window and Barr, a carefree bird, “Trump might lose.” And that changed everything. Bill was suddenly very cautious. He promised to investigate the election. He found nothing. He resigned prior to the end of the term, trying to bail.

As we noted in January – and so did many others – Bill Barr needs to worry about having documents captioned with “United States v. William Barr” instead of having his name at the top, representing the United States. Funny enough, but he knew that, too, probably back eight to nine months ago now.

We absolutely hate the phrase, because it is rooted in cops losing the chance to break down a “just-arrested” defendant; He “lawyered-up,” meaning “he stopped talking.” But in this case, it is time for Barr to “lawyer up,” meaning hire someone just as smart as himself and try to avoid some of this mess. Interestingly enough, Bill Barr is an extremely good attorney (as we said at the time) and knows how the system works. The DOJ will strongly consider giving him some kind of deal if Barr is willing to roll on his superiors, or “superior,” as the case may be.

Bill is not a young man, nor does he look like the picture of health. He is facing possible prison time and real humiliation. This is an issue for both Bill Barr and Donald Trump. Trump best start to accept the fact that people with a lot of heat on them are about to show Trump the same kind of loyalty he showed all the people around him when things were better.
