Trump-Loving Pastor Darrell Scott Claims Capitol Riot Was ‘Set Up’ by Congress to Impeach Trump

Trump-supporting pastor Darrell Scott has an interesting if incorrect take on recent reports that reveal Capitol Police were told to hold back in responding as the Jan. 6 siege unfolded. This, Scott claims, is evidence that the riot was a “set up” so that Trump would have to take the blame for it, Newsweek reports.

Scott decided to discuss the situation on his show on iHeartRadio. As the founder of the New Spirit Revival Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and CEO of The National Diversity Coalition for Trump, you can bet his take on the riot is well, cockamamie.

His comments are a response to a report by Inspector General Michael Bolton. That report, picked up by news organizations including The Associated Press and The New York Times reveals that Capitol Police were warned about the potential for something bad to happen on that fateful day and were also told that “Congress itself is the target.” The report also said officers were told not to aggressively disperse rioters and were instructed not to use weapons.

The report comes as some Capitol Police officers received heavy criticism for their conduct on the day of the siege and as the department itself was criticized for failing to fully prepare even though it received intelligence that indicated far-right extremists were planning to carry out dangerous acts that day.

But for Scott, this is evidence that shows Trump isn’t to blame for inciting the riot during his speech that day in Washington, D.C. Even though he spent weeks and weeks falsely claiming he lost a “rigged” election, blah, blah voter fraud.

Logic is apparently not Scott’s strong suit, however.

“The New York Times just confirmed what we all knew, that the Capitol riots were pre-planned,” he said. “The Capitol riots were pre-planned and they knew days in advance that it was coming.”

(Well duh, Sparky, we’ve known for the past month at least that they were pre-planned. By pro-Trump extremists).

“The Capitol Police were told to hold back on the response, they were given a stand-down order,” Scott said. “This was no coup, it was no siege, it was no attempt to overturn the election. They were told to stand down.”

I told you Scott was logic-challenged. But then he really takes a flying leap off the deep end:

“It was a setup. It was a setup for those congressmen and senators who hated Donald Trump, to have another impeachment hearing to try to prevent him from ever holding public office again.”

For Scott, the fact that the Trump-supporting mob planned the attack beforehand is evidence that it wasn’t a “spontaneous event” conducted at the behest of the former president.

“It was not a spontaneous activity that Donald Trump instigated from the rally that morning,” Scott said.

Now he says he’s considering “putting my hat back in the ring” and running for Congress as a response to the “gutless” senators who voted to impeach Trump.

Oh goody. We have now all been warned.
