Georgia Prosecutor Hires One of World’s Leading Racketeering Experts to Investigate Trump

As bad as things may be in New York – and they’re bad – things may be just as bad or worse in Georgia. After all, in Georgia, Trump is on tape. Not only is Trump on tape, but so is Lindsey Graham, and Graham actually asked outright if they could toss away certain votes. On tape.

An election interference case against Trump may be tough because the prosecutor will have to prove that Trump knew that he lost the election and was asking for an illegal act. It is tough to prove that Trump knows anything about anything. But there are other laws Trump might have violated and there could be independent racketeering charges. Racketeering is a little “looser,” and more associated with the mob. (Which sounds fitting.). The definition of racketeering depends on each state’s statute but it’s basically fraudulent business or commercial dealings.

According to Reuters, by way of Rawstory:

“The district attorney investigating whether former U.S. President Donald Trump illegally interfered with Georgia’s 2020 election has hired an outside lawyer who is a national authority on racketeering,” Reuters reported Saturday, citing “a source familiar with the matter.”

“Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has enlisted the help of Atlanta lawyer John Floyd, who wrote a national guide on prosecuting state racketeering cases. Floyd was hired recently to ‘provide help as needed’ on matters involving racketeering, including the Trump investigation and other cases, said the source, who has direct knowledge of the situation. The move bolsters the team investigating Trump as Willis prepares to issue subpoenas for evidence on whether the former president and his allies broke the law in their campaign to pressure state officials to reverse his Georgia election loss. Willis has said that her office would examine potential charges including ‘solicitation of election fraud, the making of false statements to state and local governmental bodies, conspiracy, racketeering’ among other possible violations,” Reuters reported.

Yes, a lot will depend on the tape, which is critical. But racketeering charges always involve groups of people and thus there will be a lot of investigation into people around Trump, people doing Trump’s bidding, people like Lindsey Graham, who we’ve always believed committed a clear felony on tape. The problem has been that Lindsey’s felony has largely been forgotten among all the other felonies committed that month, including an insurrection at the Capitol.

But things could get even more interesting, fast. Watch New York. Watch Georgia. And watch FBI headquarters in Washington after Merrick Garland is confirmed.
