Trumpy GOP Rep. Finds a Way to Blame Mail Slowdown on Antifa and Black Lives Matter

One Arizona Republican has some interesting ideas on what caused monumental postal service delays in the U.S. last year and it’s not due to COVID-19.

No, according to Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs, COVID-19 didn’t cause the delays. It was those consarned Antifa and Black Lives Matter people. Indeed, he blamed “nationwide mayhem, destruction, rioting and looting conducted by Black Lives Matter and Antifa activists,” for the slowdown, The Week reports. Although two post offices were destroyed last year during protests over the police killing of George Floyd, there were no reports to even indicate this was a nationwide problem.

Biggs revealed this nonsense during a contentious hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee Wednesday, where Postmaster General Louis DeJoy testified. DeJoy, a major supporter of former President Donald Trump and a heavy-duty Republican donor took an ax to the Postal Service’s budget, and that’s arguably the biggest reason for the agency’s vast slow down last year. But the fact also remains that COVID-19 safety measures also hobbled the agency at a time when unprecedented numbers of voters were requesting mail-in ballots.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) asked DeJoy several softball questions, basically doing his best to shift the blame to Democrats for portraying the USPS director as “the worst guy on the planet” as the delays droned on.

That rang Rep. Gerry Connelly’s bell and the Virginia Democrat sharply criticized Jordan’s “gaslighting” noting that Trump had vilified the USPS as the election drew close. Then he took to Twitter and posted the clip below.

“Facts are stubborn things,” he wrote. “And despite all the gaslighting from enablers of the former president, the facts here aren’t up for debate.”

“Louis DeJoy, and the Board of Governors that hired him, oversaw a political crusade to undermine the Postal Service before an election.”

The fact that Biggs blamed Antifa and BLM protesters for the postal service delays is patently absurd. Here’s his nonsensical comments below.

There’s the old saying “you can’t fix stupid.” You can apparently elect it to public office, however.
