Trump’s DC International Hotel Feeding QAnon Frenzy About March 4th Inauguration Conspiracy

Some of us vaguely knew about the fact that the interim “lame duck” period between the election and inauguration used to be much longer, even as it seems interminable now. But until the early-mid 1900s, the new president was not sworn in until March 4th. Sadly, it is just another date on the calendar to which the conspiracy theorists on the MAGA right can now point to as the inevitable time when Trump will rise and take his seat at the right hand of the father… Wait, that’s another matter, retake his seat in the Oval Office.

That sounds like a moneymaking opportunity to the Trumps because what isn’t an opportunity to make money when it comes to Trump and the MAGAs? The Trumps have always used their power in Washington to stuff that hotel near the Capitol and White House with high-end lobbyists and others that wanted to buy favors from the then-president. Now it sits half-empty looking for the meager scraps that may be left.

Speaking of meager scraps, the hotel is doing all it can to take advantage of that MAGA-wing that believes that Trump will surely rise to power again on March 4th. According to Forbes:

At the heart of the threat is a belief among some conspiracy theorists that former President Donald Trump will be inaugurated again on March 4—and they look to his Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue for signs…

… QAnon adherents are always looking to Trump for validation, says Blazakis, and they recently received a sign when the Washington hotel hiked its rates for March 4. (A spokesperson for the Trump International Hotel did not respond to a request for comment.)

The least expensive room at Trump International comes with a king-size bed with an opulent headboard topped with a gilded crown. Throughout March, this room generally runs anywhere from $476 to $596 per night, with one noteworthy exception. For the dates of March 3 and 4, the king deluxe is selling for $1,331 per night, 180% above the base rate and more than double what a guest would pay any other night next month.

So it is sort of a “build it and they will come” thing. If they had kept the rates steady or even discounted them, it would be a signal that nothing is happening that weekend. But jacking the rates up has the effect of convincing the MAQAs that something “big” is happening that week and thus they’re more likely to come and… happily pay more.

There is a fortune of money to be made on the MAGA right. Just give them what they want. Let them build their own reality and allow them to pay for it. A self-fulfilling prophecy, other than Trump rising back into the presidency, that is. That part isn’t happening and all sane people know it.
