The Avalanche Continues: Houston Paper to Ted Cruz: Resign Now, Your Lies Cost Lives

Sometimes it feels like we’re just at a tipping point, if we can just add a few more pieces of straw, we might be able to turn the nation around a bit. It seems as though we might be able to return society to some level of sanity rooted in some larger truths.

The fact is, as embarrassing as it may be to Cruz and Hawley now, and however regretful either of them may or may not be about how things turned out on the 6th, they have to pay a price for the horrific opportunism, bad judgment, risk, and sheer powerlust. Cruz and Hawley have Ivy League law degrees. They knew that the only thing worse than this not working for themselves and Trump was if it had worked and what that meant for the nation. They couldn’t possibly think that another four years of Trump was a good idea and if they did, they deserve to lose their jobs anyway. They definitely knew they were killing democracy, they just didn’t care.

Those of us that live on the left side of the net have been shocked as to just how obvious it was on the Right that this was going to get very very rough, and that’s at best. They went ahead anyway. Had the entire Senate agreed that the election was sound as they knew it to be, there likely wouldn’t have been a January 6th. It wouldn’t have been a “thing.”

Now Cruz is feigning that he’s appalled at the violence and loss of life and he still wants you to believe it was not only his right as a Senator but his idea served a larger purpose, “testing the integrity of the election.” The Houston Chronicle Editorial Board isn’t having it:

“Cruz had helped spin that web of deception and now he was feigning concern that millions of Americans had gotten caught up in it,”

We can’t help but think he’s no less concerned about the losses than he is about the damage to democracy he was doing in a suit and tie.

Even as he peddled his phony concern for the integrity of our elections, he argued that senators who voted to certify Biden’s victory would be telling tens of millions of Americans to “jump in a lake” and that their concerns don’t matter.

No, Cruz was telling people on the left and especially POC that their votes don’t matter. Why wouldn’t he? He has all of American history to back him up.

This is a man who lied, unflinchingly, on national television, claiming on Hannity’s show days after the election that Philadelphia votes were being counted under a “shroud of darkness” in an attempted Democratic coup. As he spoke, the process was being livestreamed on YouTube.

Again, this couldn’t possibly have gone as far as it did without Ted Cruz.

We’re done with the drama. Done with the opportunism. Done with the cynical scheming that has now cost American lives. Resign, Mr. Cruz, and deliver Texas from the shame of calling you our senator.

Well, it is a start. Cruz is almost sure to ignore the Chronicle. But if the pressure gets to the point where Exxon starts demanding that Cruz stand down or any of the large Dallas area companies, then Cruz will have to seriously listen because they can make life very difficult for an upward strive like Ted Cruz.

It is getting closer. All these calls can snowball.
