Pentagon REJECTS Trump’s Request for Huge Military-Style Farewell Sendoff

It is absolutely disgusting that a man who incited an insurrection that came perilously close to hurting the Vice President and Speaker of the House (or kidnapping them or worse) believes he deserves a massive celebration of himself, using his favorite toy – the military. We love that democracy seems to still have a heartbeat, the Pentagon denied the request.

Not for nothing, but with four days left in Trump’s tenure, with rumors flying about his desperation, it is assuring to hear that the Pentagon has no problem saying no to him.

According to reporter Katelyn Caralle with the Daily Mail:

The Pentagon will break with recent tradition by refusing to engage in an armed forces farewell or throw Donald Trump’s requested military-style parade as the president leaves office on Wednesday.

Trump wants an extravagant goodbye – not unlike the exuberance he exuded during his presidency – despite his recent fallout of favor with middle-of-the-line Republicans following the storming of the Capitol earlier this month, which Democrats impeached him for last Wednesday claiming he ‘incited an insurrection.’

The president wanted his departure from Washington to involve a ‘military-style sendoff and a crowd of supporters,’ a person who has discussed the matter with Trump told CNN.

Not that anyone wants Trump’s wish granted, but it would be somewhat fitting that he came in convinced it is all about him, personally, and for him to go out by affirming once again that it’s all about him, personally – and not the nation. It is traditional for the military to do some sort of nice gesture to send off a president, not some grand thing with pomp and pageantry.

It is probably also worth noting that any extra military assets should be helping to distribute vaccines or to keep his marauding hordes from any attempt to make trouble again.

It isn’t clear if Trump wanted his farewell parade to take place at the White House, Joint Base Andrews, or his final destination of Palm Beach – but the issue is moot now that the Pentagon says it won’t participate regardless.

It makes perfect sense that the proposed plans were not clear because the moment he floated the idea it was shot down as something that wasn’t going to happen. Thus little details like “where” were never addressed.

And one last detail to make it art:

When Trump’s term officially ends at noon on Joe Biden’s Inauguration Day – Wednesday, January 20 – Trump expects to be at his Mar-a-Lago club in South Florida or playing at his nearby golf course.

We so desperately hope that he’s on the golf course. Symbolism like this matters. History has its eyes on him.
