We have seen this throughout history.

When John F. Kennedy was killed, it took years before the video was made public. The film forced people to confront the utter horror unleashed that day. Citizens knew the assassination was awful, obviously, but it is different seeing it in detail. When we went through 9-11 we certainly did watch much of it on television, but it took weeks to see some of the more personal horrors, the video again forced us to absorb what happened with greater understanding.

It is no different here. We watched scenes play out last Wednesday and those scenes paralyzed us with fear. But details were scattered, and vague. We didn’t know the level of planning that went into the operation, nor the specific targets. As throughout history, each new view, each new revelation, leads to new sorrow and fear.

The New Yorker magazine released new video from inside the Capitol today. It doesn’t tell a new story, it fills in details from the story. The details leave one stupefied. How did this happen in this country? We will list descriptions of some video here for people unable to watch the video. The quotes are from Mediaite’s review:

One individual inside the building told an officer, “You’re outnumbered. There’s a fucking million of us out there, and we are listening to Trump, your boss!”

Trump is not the boss of the Capitol Police, Pelosi is the “boss” but the real boss is the police chief.

Mogelson captured footage of people chanting “treason” at least twice, and even caught one person saying, “Where the fuck is Nancy?”

At the very least, the horde planned on kidnapping Pelosi, perhaps using her as a hostage to alter the vote. Perhaps they just wanted to kill her.

There’s one moment in the video where they appear to have found Ted Cruz’s objection to the election results in Arizona, with one individual saying “he’s with us.” At another point someone says, “I think Cruz would want us to do this. I think we’re good.”

We doubt Cruz wanted them to do that specific act. We suspect that Cruz does want these people’s votes when he runs for president in 2024. He wanted these people angry and rioting, but not quite like this. We are guessing.
