Americans Disgusted After Learning Trump Wanted to Sell Puerto Rico Following Hurricane Maria
Okay, this is ridiculous.
Trump, the man who talked aloud about buying Greenland before even inquiring whether it would ever be for sale, also asked about selling Puerto Rico, after Hurricane Maria.
We have been on record stating that the idea of buying Greenland is far from crazy if the land was ever “for sale” or whether Greenland wanted to enter into some kind of partnership. Global Warming is about to open the Northwest Passage in the arctic ocean, opening the sea lanes up for much faster freighter traffic and other interests. The US is already in partnership agreements about shared naval bases in the Arctic Ocean. It’s an idea that should be considered if the time was right. Russia has a lot of land abutting the Arctic Ocean.
It was how Trump went about the process. Such an attempt should involve two years of discussions among diplomats behind closed doors before it’s even opened up for public comment. Not Trump. He mused about it openly.
Now we’re finding out that the man who wanted to buy Greenland, looked at selling Puerto Rico. We wonder what sets the two apart, other than glaciers and palm trees. The Spanish language? Brown skin?

From the NY Times, and an interview with former Acting DHS Secretary Elaine Duke:
Among her most searing moments during the response to the hurricanes came when she heard Mr. Trump raise the possibility of “divesting” or “selling” Puerto Rico as the island struggled to recover.
“The president’s initial ideas were more of as a businessman, you know,” she recalled. “Can we outsource the electricity? Can we can we sell the island? You know, or divest of that asset?”
She said the idea was never seriously considered or discussed after that meeting.
Oh, it most definitely would have been seriously considered if people in the room didn’t call him insane and just said “Yes, it should be done,” agreeing with him. Who did Trump think would buy it? Hilton hotels? Canada? Russia?
The United States doesn’t “sell” land. We are far more likely to go out and steal it outright. Moreover, the Puerto Rican people have added limitless talent and culture to the country. Puerto Rico is an essential American island that should determine its own fate.
As expected, Twitter was disgusted:
The idea of “selling” Puerto Rico is so Trumpian that it’s amazing he didn’t propose it on his way down that escalator in Trump Tower. He probably thinks he owns the U.S. citizens he was throwing rolls of paper towels at during Hurricane Maria.https://t.co/au5gHwvSjb

Stop saying he approached things as a businessman. He is not a businessman, he is a criminal who launders money and a sociopath who hates non white people. He is incompetent and unqualified for the position he holds.

He has always hated Puerto Ricans. Anyone from the NY area can tell you that. In the aftermath of Maria, his public remarks about PR sounded like a person looking to unload property. Blamed the people for being raped by capitalist. Typical Trump.

Essentially proposing to sell brown people. Is there anyone left who still thinks he’s not a racist?
— minnesorta (@minnesorta) July 11, 2020
This is an idiotic idea.
But it's made even worse when you consider he wants to sell it AFTER A NATURAL DISASTER
This is supposed to be a real estate tycoon
Oh, wait, racism

We are in the worst and most racist timeline.
Trump’s failed response for Puerto Rico and Hurricane Maria led to 3,000 deaths. That was 2017.
Now the rest of America is seeing his emergency response prowess. Nearly 140,000 dead.
Vote him and his Republican enablers out. https://t.co/fjDyDkEc6P
