Trump Just Claimed That Airplanes are ‘Far Too Complex to Fly’ and the Internet is Laughing at Him
Donald Trump is back on Twitter and giving his expert aeronautics assessment that modern airplanes are “far too complex” to fly.
The president’s latest tweets are a weird statement that technological advances in air travel are a bad thing, that “the complexity creates danger,” and that pilots are “no longer needed” because they’re somehow incapable of taking manual control of their planes.
Trump tweeted, “Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better. Split second decisions are….
….needed, and the complexity creates danger. All of this for great cost yet very little gain. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Albert Einstein to be my pilot. I want great flying professionals that are allowed to easily and quickly take control of a plane!”

Judging by Trump’s tweets today so far, it’s possible his latest bit of online rambling has something to do with Fox News’ coverage on Boeing’s public scrutiny after one of their planes went down two days ago in Ethiopia.
Even so, political observers at large are responding to Trump’s tweets with confusion about the Albert Einstein mention, questioning Trump’s expertise on air flights, and outright mockery.
As a pilot, I'm laughing at you.
As an American, I'm weeping that Grandpa Ranty is both yelling at clouds AND in control of our nuclear arsenal. https://t.co/uEDKPQhpme

The president misunderstands the problem…and in this case I do truly think he misunderstands it and isn't lying.
Also a reminder that he has direct access to the world's foremost experts on every topic and chooses not to consult with them or take their counsel. pic.twitter.com/R5NSKhmhkp

The President of the United States is casting doubt on the safety of all air travel because planes use computers now https://t.co/rE9N8DlwkG

In my day we didn't have your fancy iPants and selfiephones. We had to yell across a field and if they couldn't hear you, too bad. And we liked it that way, kept the chatter down. https://t.co/Nnx38JzElB

When I see tweets like this, where Trump takes some completely unfounded certainty on something he knows jacksh*t about, I have zero doubt that there is some corrupt jerk behind it pouring money into Trump’s pockets. https://t.co/dR6ks3HB8j
