Van Jones Slams Trump’s SOTU, a ‘Psychotically Incoherent Speech with Cookies and Dog Poop’

CNN commentator Van Jones slammed Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, calling it a speech comprised of “cookies and dog poop.”

“I saw this as a psychotically incoherent speech with cookies and dog poop,” Jones said on CNN following the address. “He tries to put together in the same speech these warm, kind things about humanitarianism and caring about children. At the same time, he is demonizing people who are immigrants in a way that was appalling.”

Jones said that he felt like the president was trying to appeal to people while also saying some things that were really triggering, especially for Democratic members of Congress and their guests.

Trump’s address was not as divisive and far-right-leaning as was predicted, but he did touch on some very sensitive subjects for liberals.

Specifically, the president brought up the southern border wall, which Democrats say they will not agree to fund, and which Trump maintains is necessary to national security at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Threats of either a national emergency declaration or another government shutdown loom as the continuing resolution, which Trump signed late last month, expires on Feb. 8.

Jones went off on Trump’s immigration remarks in particular and clashed with Rick Santorum over what POTUS did and didn’t emphasize.

Jones said that Trump should have talked about the guests of Democratic congress members, like children who were separated from their parents while the Trump administration more strictly enforced a zero-tolerance policy on illegal immigration.
