Trump Mocked For Claiming Credit for July 4th, ‘Love of Country Can Only Mean Love of Trump’
Donald Trump is being ridiculed for reminding Americans to “Hold the date!” for a Fourth of July government-held celebration.
“HOLD THE DATE! We will be having one of the biggest gatherings in the history of Washington, D.C., on July 4th,” the commander-in-chief tweeted on Sunday morning.
“It will be called “A Salute To America” and will be held at the Lincoln Memorial.
“Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!”

Trump said earlier this month that he was thinking about putting on a Fourth of July gathering in Washington, D.C., and he suggested that the event could become a “tradition.”
“It could be a very exciting day,” Trump said. “It’ll be a, really a gathering, as opposed to a parade I guess you’d have to say. Perhaps at the Lincoln Memorial. We’re looking at sites. But we’re thinking about doing something which would become perhaps, become a tradition, Salute to America, on July Fourth or July Fourth weekend, somewhere around that area.”
People took to social media in droves, mocking Trump for making it sound like he invented the concept of patriotic celebrations on July 4th and proclaiming himself to be America’s favorite president.
By co-opting the Fourth Of July — already a huge celebration for Americans in a capital city where he is deeply unpopular — the president again pushes the idea that love of country can only mean love of Trump. https://t.co/arb47uBPcx

The last president to try to hijack July 4th was Richard Nixon, who staged Honor America Day on July 4, 1970. It was widely ridiculed. Nixon later left office in disgrace. https://t.co/Sl5emQykP4

Fireworks in DC? At the Lincoln Memorial? On the Fourth of July?
This is some real outside of the box thinking https://t.co/NqXgTceuJn

If only anyone…ever…could have imagined a celebration on July 4th. With fireworks. In D.C. https://t.co/GpO6AuAEUP

Today's History lesson for @realDonaldTrump: We've been holding the date and saluting America since 1776 – and not for anyone's favorite feckless fink – no matter who the president is. @realDonaldTrump https://t.co/pw9hft50lN

I wouldn't put it past him to hold an impromptu wedding where he "marries America" (but only as a second wife) on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Geraldo can officiate and Rush Limbaugh can be the flower girl. https://t.co/WQcQu74wlD
