Trump’s Luncheon Today Served Steak and Mashed Potatoes, After Serving Cheap Fast Food to Clemson Football Players
The past 18 hours have been filled with stories about the Clemson football team visiting the White House and being served a meal of cheap fast food — which was necessary due to the government shutdown.
Trump even bragged about buying all of the grub, tweeting, “Great being with the National Champion Clemson Tigers last night at the White House. Because of the Shutdown I served them massive amounts of Fast Food (I paid), over 1000 hamberders etc. Within one hour, it was all gone. Great guys and big eaters!””
His original tweet misspelled “hamburgers” as “hamberders.”

Sarah Huckabee Sanders also blamed Democrats for needing to buy fast food, since she holds Dems responsible for the shutdown.

“Because the Democrats refuse to negotiate on border security, much of the residence staff at the White House is furloughed—so the president is personally paying for the event to be catered with some of everyone’s favorite fast foods,” Sanders said in a statement. The shutdown hinges on Trump’s demand for $5.8 billion in funding for his long-pledged U.S. Mexico border wall.

However, The Atlantic’s Elaina Plott reported on Tuesday that during today’s immigration luncheon, the Republicans in attendance were fed a much better meal…steak and potatoes.
Plott tweeted, “IMPORTANT: I’m told by a congressman that they were served “a lunch-sized steak, mashed potatoes, and broccoli” at lunch today at the White House. ”

So a championship winning football team is only worthy of cheap fast-food, while wealthy politicians dine on steak and potatoes?
Twitter had some thoughts:
So the WH chef can cook for members of Congress but not @ClemsonFB team during this shutdown? https://t.co/KRSKTSpmo3

Serving Wendy’s to members of congress and letting the college kids have steak would’ve been better imo https://t.co/beWdzdoqGS

Clemson Tigers, nat'l college football champions, did their job & is rewarded at the WH w McDonald's & Burger King. The next day the WH rewards legislators, 4 not doing their job & punishing fed employee's, w a lovely, healthier lunch of broccoli, steak & potatoes. @The_UnSilent_ https://t.co/QYKAQpKLov

So the #ClemsonTigers are NOT worthy of a steak at the White House, but the Republicans are. Got it!
I wonder if Donald Trump told the Republicans he paid for lunch, of which, he would HAVE to pay for their lunch. American people don't buy lunch for the ppl we already pay for. https://t.co/KfZ2iheTrq
