Trump Just Lost It On Twitter In Late-Night Rant Against the Media, ‘They Are Truly The Opposition Party!’

Donald Trump launched an attack on the press Wednesday night as the partial shutdown of the federal government continued, accusing journalists of being members of the “Opposition Party,” in league with Democrats in Congress.

In a tweet posted hours after yet another meeting with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer, the president attacked “dishonest” news outlets, singling out MSNBC and NBC by name while dubbing rival network CNN “Fake News.”

“The Mainstream Media has NEVER been more dishonest than it is now,” Trump tweeted Thursday evening.

“NBC and MSNBC are going Crazy,” he added. “They report stories, purposely, the exact opposite of the facts. They are truly the Opposition Party working with the Dems. May even be worse than Fake News CNN, if that is possible!”

A second tweet went on to hit news organizations, apparently prompted by a story from The New York Times, detailing an off-the-record meeting between Trump and news anchors at which the Times was not present, for leaking contents of the meeting to the Times.

“Gave an OFF THE RECORD luncheon, somewhat of a White House tradition or custom, to network anchors yesterday – and they quickly leaked the contents of the meeting. Who would believe how bad it has gotten with the mainstream media, which has gone totally bonkers!” Trump added in a follow-up tweet.

The Times’ story, which was published on Tuesday, detailed how the president reportedly told the assembled journalists that he didn’t expect his upcoming trip to the U.S.-Mexico border to “change a damn thing,” while describing it as a photo opportunity.

“It’s not going to change a damn thing, but I’m still doing it. But these people behind you say it’s worth it,” the president reportedly said, referring to members of the White House communications team including Bill Shine and Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Trump wasn’t done though…he then retweeted a bunch of tweets from conservative activist Charlie Kirk, all focused on his border wall.
