Melania Tweets Glamour Shot and Says She’s Now Back to Work After Shutdown — It Doesn’t Go Very Well

The government shutdown that brought Washington DC to a halt for 35 days is now behind us, so hundreds of thousands of people are going back to work and finally getting paid.

That includes Melania Trump, who obviously doesn’t receive a salary, but due to the government shutdown her office was mostly furloughed and you can’t expect a rich Trump to actually work by herself, can you?

So after the shutdown ended, Melania tweeted out a message that her work will now continue.

Melania tweeted, “Our work in the East wing continues into 2019 with online safety, fighting opioid abuse & supporting the well-being of children everywhere! #BeBest”

Melania struck controversy during the government shutdown by continuing to use government resources while the government was basically closed.

On Thursday, January 17 — the 27th day of the government shutdown — Melania Trump flew to the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on an Air Force jet, according to NBC News.

Earlier that same day, Donald Trump told Nancy Pelosi he was postponing her trip to Afghanistan “in light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay.”

Trump said it would be better if Pelosi stayed in Washington to negotiate an end to the shutdown with him and join “the Strong Border Security movement.” He told Pelosi she was welcome to pay for commercial flights instead.

And yet, Trump was just fine with his wife using government resources to fly to Florida for the long holiday weekend.

Twitter wasn’t very agreeable to Melania’s tweet:
