Low-Energy Trump Gives Fear-Mongering Speech and Ignores 800K Federal Workers Going Without Pay
Donald Trump announced his new plan to hopefully end the government shutdown on Saturday, and it was a giant dud.
Trump said he would give temporary protections for some undocumented immigrants in return for money for his border wall. TEMPORARY protections for a PERMANENT wall.
Trump, who made his offer during a televised speech from the White House, floated extending protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients for three years and a three-year extension of protected status for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders in exchange for more than $5 billion for a border wall.
“Both sides in Washington must simply come together, listen to each other, put down their armor, build trust, reach across the aisle and find solutions,” Trump said.
Trump added that he was making his pitch to “break the logjam” that has paralyzed Washington since late December.

The partial shutdown government, which is the longest lapse in funding in modern history, is currently in its 29th day amid an entrenched stalemate over funding for Trump’s U.S.-Mexico border wall. Roughly a quarter of the government is closed and approximately 800,000 federal employees, who will miss their second paycheck next week, are furloughed or forced to work without pay.
But never mentioned those 800,000 federal workers in his speech.
Twitter noticed:
I don't know how long that speech was. I'm guessing eight minutes. But not once did Trump mention the federal workers who are either furloughed or on the job without pay. Not a single time. #TrumpShutdown

A lot of DACA talk but not one word today in Trump's speech, er, campaign cry, about the 800,000 federal workers suffering, living day to day, trying to get food.
It's because Trump doesn't care about them.
All he cares about is appeasing the racist, bigoted South.

@realDonaldTrump showed his true colors during his speech by not mentioning all the federal workers who he has caused such suffering. He’s out of touch and there is no light at the end of this tunnel without McConnell acting independently of Trump .

Trump ignored all the government workers that have not received a paycheck in his BS 10-minute speech. #Shameful #WhereIsMitch #vote on the bills that the House passed and are sitting on your desk. #DoYourJob #DidTrumpOpenGovernmentYet

Democrats have already suggested the proposal is a nonstarter, demanding the government be reopened before any broader negotiations on immigration take place. It’s not clear Trump’s base will be pleased with the deal either — Ann Coulter is already in a huff over it:
100 miles of border wall in exchange for amnestying millions of illegals. So if we grant citizenship to a BILLION foreigners, maybe we can finally get a full border wall.

Trump proposes amnesty. We voted for Trump and got Jeb!

In his speech, Trump issued a rebuke of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by declaring “walls are not immoral.” He also emphasized the “humanitarian crisis” at the southern border, touching on drug trafficking, crime committed by undocumented immigrants, and the dangers facing migrants making the dangerous trek north.
