Trump Wants Headpats For Sending Air Force One To Transport Body of Pres. Bush To Washington, DC
The preparations for George H.W. Bush’s funeral are slowly coming together, and Donald Trump has approved the use of Air Force One to transport Bush’s body to Washington, DC.
Talking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump shared that before transporting the remains of the late president, a section of seats is being removed from the plane in order to accommodate Bush’s casket.
“So what we’re doing with the plane — we land, and then they come in and these are great people that run these aircraft. They are unbelievable. And they’re taking apart — I don’t think this section. The section up front, they’re taking all of the seats out,” he told reporters, according to a White House pool report.
The plane — which is not called Air Force One unless the president is onboard — will fly to Houston, where it will pick up the late president’s casket before transporting it to Maryland’s Joint Base Andrews on Monday.
Following the state funeral on Wednesday, Bush’s remains will be transported to Houston, where he lived. A second memorial service will also be held at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Houston at 11 a.m. on Thursday.

He will then be laid to rest at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University. His late wife Barbara as well as their daughter Robin, who died at the age of three from leukemia, are also buried there.
Conservatives are hailing Trump for “allowing” Air Force One to transport Bush’s casket, but it is a customary action to take. Furthermore, Air Force One is NOT Trump’s aircraft — it is the people’s plane, and is owned by the federal government.
Twitter quickly pointed this out:
People on the right get excited when the President does a decent and normal thing.

Making a headline out of something that’s supposed to be done. That’s not class or respect.

This is literally standard procedure.

Is that something to boast? It’s a very empty gesture that any sitting president should feel obligated to make. Too bad trump was never classy enough to respect Bush Sr in life; only in death, only when it’s too late.https://t.co/84siITUXKa

I believe flying bodies and families of fallen presidents is standard protocol, not unique to president trump

i’ll bet he was forced by his advisers to do this…he must have been choking on his words

Any other President would likely have authorized an official presidential plane without announcing it to the world before hand. It’s a common courtesy expected.

Trump, that’s a fine thing to do. Do you understand that’s what a President should do. So, turn off the TV & think about doing one fine thing like this every morning. Maybe, just maybe, it’ll spur you to do 2 nice things each day. Think you could give this a go? Hope so.
