Donald Trump took to Twitter this morning to rail against the treatment of Michael Flynn by the special counsel’s office.

Flynn is going to be sentenced days from now, and he asked the judge this week for no jail time and probation/community service instead. Robert Mueller‘s office said that he has provided “substantial assistance.”

Trump this morning, after his tweetstorm declaring “I never directed Michael Cohen to break the law,” decried the treatment of Flynn and declared this whole thing a “WITCH HUNT” again.

Trump tweeted, “They gave General Flynn a great deal because they were embarrassed by the way he was treated – the FBI said he didn’t lie and they overrode the FBI. They want to scare everybody into making up stories that are not true by catching them in the smallest of misstatements. Sad!……WITCH HUNT!!’

Flynn, who served a brief stint as Trump’s national security adviser, asked a federal judge earlier this week to spare him from prison time and instead sentence him to at most one year probation.

His request came a week after Mueller recommended Flynn serve no jail time, citing his “substantial assistance” in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Flynn pleaded guilty late last year to lying to the FBI as part of an agreement to cooperate with Mueller’s team.

Twitter was quick to call Trump out:

You have no clue how Mueller's investigation works. He's not going to simply force people to lie and then use that lie to indict others. He uses what cooperators tell him to go out and find corroborating evidence. You can't corroborate a lie, so it would be pointless to force one
