A Humiliated Trump Just Said ‘More Than 10’ People Want To Be His Chief of Staff — ‘Please Report News Correctly!’

Donald Trump disputed reports on Tuesday that say he’s having trouble hiring someone who wants to be his chief of staff after John Kelly announced he would leave at the end of the month.

Trump claimed Tuesday more than 10 people want the job, a role that has been diminished by a president who often prefers to play his own chief of staff.

“Fake News has it purposely wrong. Many, over ten, are vying for and wanting the White House Chief of Staff position. Why wouldn’t someone want one of the truly great and meaningful jobs in Washington. Please report news correctly. Thank you!” Trump tweeted.

The vice president’s chief of staff, Nick Ayers, was the leading candidate to take the position late last week. Ayers turned down the role and is likely to take a position with the pro-Trump Super PAC America First Action, where he will help the president with his 2020 re-election effort.

Trump announced Kelly’s departure Saturday as he departed for Philadelphia to attend the Army-Navy football game. Trump said then he would announce his chief of staff pick in the next few days.

Former Trump 2016 deputy campaign manager David Bossie is on the short list to replace Kelly, and House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows has expressed interest in the role.
