Trump Just Tossed His Translation Earpiece To The Ground And Said He Understands Spanish At G20 Summit

Donald Trump had barely arrived at the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina before the gaffes began.

Listening to a greeting from Argentinian President Mauricio Macri, Trump ditched his translation earpiece, apparently due to technical difficulties.

A problem with Trump’s live translation – delivered via headset – frustrated Trump, who removed his headset and ditched it on the floor. “I think I understood you better in your language than I did on this. But that’s okay” he said.

An aide rushed in and scooped up the malfunctioning earpiece, and things moved on.

“We’re going to be talking about lots of good things for Argentina and for the United States, including trade, including military purchases and other things,” Trump said, adding that the conversation would be “a little bit old times, about 95 percent business.”

“I want to just say that I’ve been friends with Mauricio for a long time, many years. People wouldn’t know that. He was a very young man, very handsome man. And we knew each other very well. And I actually did business with his family, with his father,” adding he was fond of his memories with the Macri family.

After meeting with Macri, Trump ceremonially signed a new trade deal with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto. The United States Mexico Canada Agreement is a trilateral trade pact that replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), described by Trump as the “single worst deal ever approved.”

The president’s schedule of meetings has been altered in recent days. Trump has cancelled a head-to-head meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, ostensibly in light of a naval clash between Russian and Ukrainian ships last weekend. Meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and South Korean President Moon Jae-in have been downgraded to informal ‘pull-asides’.
