Fox News Is Teasing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Because She Can’t Afford D.C. Apartment

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was elected on Tuesday to represent New York in the United States House of Representatives. Representative-elect Ocasio-Cortez will be the youngest woman to serve in the House of Representatives. Before her bid for office, Ocasio-Cortez worked as a bartender.

On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez told The New York Times that she will not be able to afford to get an apartment in Washington DC until she begins to receive her congressional salary in January. She pointed to that reality, noting that the electoral system is not designed to be accessible to working people.

On Friday, Fox News hosts made fun of her and her financial situation, laughing as they talked about her financial challenges. In response, Ocasio-Cortez ripped the Network and hosts. She said that it has been “revealing” watching Fox News “gleefully” make fun of her finances.

She tweeted writing, “of support! As I mentioned, we’ve been preparing and will be fine. However, it’s been very revealing to see how gleefully Fox News hosts crack jokes about working-class people. It reveals what they actually think about us.”

During the Fox News segment on her finances, contributor Judy Miller claimed that Ocasio-Cortez’s comments about her finances were entirely political. She said, “I think what she’s talking about is all of the money in Washington, all of the wealth in Washington, all of the power and a little, simple person like her from New York can’t find a place to live.”

Anchor Ed Henry then chastised the Representative-elect. He criticized her for wearing designer clothing for post-primary photo shoots. Henry said, “She had these multithousand-dollar outfits that could pay a month’s rent in Washington D.C.”

Ocasio-Cortex responded perfectly writing, “1. @FoxNews, why can’t any of your anchors say my name correctly? It’s been 5 months. 2. It is bizarre to see 1%-salaried anchors laugh at the US housing crisis. 3. Never purchased pricey clothes + always told my story. But repeating lies until they are believed is your thing.”
